App (Code)
Like App Inventor, but with Python: design your screens with views, add buttons and widgets, and write the code that runs when each one is tapped.
- ๐ Smart home with a password
- ๐ค Robot remotes
- ๐ Sensor dashboards
- ๐งฎ Calculators & tools
- ๐ฎ Games & quizzes

All about App (Code)
Your mentorโs quick guide: how it works, what to try next, and answers to common questions.
Add views and parts. Each view lines its parts up โ across (Horizontal), down (Vertical) or in a Grid. Tap a part for its settings.
Every button and widget has its own โwhen clickedโ Python. All of it together is the full code โ imports are added for you.
Try it with the Virtual Board, then connect your board by Bluetooth or IoT. Watch each line light up as it runs.
๐ง What to make next
A hello button ยท a counter ยท show text from an input ยท if / else
Calculator ยท quiz ยท dice game ยท timer and stopwatch
Password-locked smart home ยท robot remote ยท live sensor dashboard with alerts
๐ What you need
- ๐ปA computer, tablet or phone with Chrome
- ๐งฉA TinkerPy board with a Project โ or the Virtual Board to practise
- ๐A little Python: variables, if / else โ the examples teach you
- ๐จIdeas! Every view has colours, padding, corners and shadows
โ Questions students ask
What is the difference between App (Blocks) and App (Code)?
App (Blocks): drag widgets, no code. App (Code): you design the layout with views and write Python for every button and widget, so your app can think โ passwords, scores, timers, conditions.
Is this real Python?
It is Python made for apps: variables, if / elif / else, loops, maths, text and lists โ and it starts instantly on a phone. No def, global or import needed in your events.
Can I use all the App (Blocks) widgets?
Yes โ doors, fans, lights, sensors, joysticks, camera AI and more, plus new parts like text inputs, sliders, switches, progress bars and gauges.
How does it talk to my board?
bluetooth.send("A") sends a letter, just like App (Blocks). When the board sends data back, your โwhen data arrivesโ code runs.
App (Blocks) builds a remote control in a minute โ just drag widgets.
